Question: How can I pay for my goods?
Answer:
We accept all of the major credit and debit cards, including the following, as forms of payment
Question: Can my goods be delivered?
Answer:
We can arrange delivery for you either through our own fleet of delivery vehicles or via a specialist courier service.
In most cases we can deliver (ex-stock) goods to your home within 72 hours from receipt of order. However, this will depend upon product availability and any specific delivery instructions you may have. Doors that are not held in stock may take between 2 and 3 weeks.
Once you have placed your order and confirmed the cost of your delivery, we will acknowledge receipt of the purchase and advise the delivery date. We will then contact you, normally by email, to you verify the delivery date, just prior to the goods being despatched.
You may also be able to arrange to collect the material, if required, from one of our regional branches. You simply have to specify this when initially placing your order. For details of our branch locations, please see our contact us page.
Doors FAQs
Question: How do I measure the door size I require?
Answer:
When measuring either your interior or exterior door you must measure the door frame and not the existing door, in order to obtain the correct dimensions
Measure the distance between the frame in 3 positions - the top, the middle and the bottom.
The widest size is the basis for your door size. Now measure from the floor to the underside of the timber head-plate, in order to obtain your height required - again please measure in more that one position.
The door thickness will be defined by your door frame. You can therefore replace the door to the same thickness, or in most cases replace with a thinner option if required.
We would always suggest that you re-check your measurements to avoid any problems - remember the old saying 'measure twice, cut once!'
Question: How is my door constructed?
Answer:
Whilst each type of door is individually constructed, the majority of timber doors are 'engineered' to ensure both stability and consistency of quality in appearance and finish. This means that the door will have a 'core' material of either timber, MDF or chipboard and then a wood veneer finish (in oak, pine or hardwood) that provides an enhanced appearance. The core material for each door will vary according to the individual specification.
As the doors are engineered in construction this means the doors are less likely to bow or twist and also means there is less waste reducing the impact on the environment. If you have a question on a specific door then please contact us and we will be happy to advise.
Question: Is the timber used in the manufacture from a sustainable source?
Answer:
We only purchase from premium suppliers where we can be assured that the materials used in the construction of the doors are from a legal and sustainable source.
As a Company Arnold Laver is committed to helping protect our World forests and we take great pride in our environmental credentials.

Question: Can my door be pre-glazed?
Answer:
Yes, a number of our doors are supplied pre-glazed, incorporating both modern and traditional styles with a variety of glass options.
Question: What type of glass should be used?
Answer:
All our glazed doors are supplied with 4mm toughened units that meet the appropriate safety standards.
Question: Can my door be painted, stained, varnished or waxed?
Answer:
How you finish your door is obviously your choice, whether its paint, stain or varnish. By taking your time you can really enhance the finish by carefully preparing the door and using the best available paint, stain etc. The best way to prepare your door is to rub the door down with wire wool (or fine sandpaper) until it is smooth to the touch. Apply the first coat of stain. Wait until it is completely dry then rub the door down gently. Repeating this first procedure the apply another coat. Keep doing this until you are happy with the finish. It should take 3 to 4 coats of stain or varnish.
When painting the doors you must rub the door down until it is smooth to the touch. Apply at least 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of paint.
It's important to remember that for Exterior Doors both front and rear surfaces, the sides and both top and bottom edges and any cut outs (locks, letter plates, hinges etc) must be treated with a minimum of three coats of a proprietary branded finish or paint suitable for this purpose.
Whilst for Interior Doors both front and rear surfaces, sides and both top and bottom must be treated with a minimum of 3 coats of proprietary branded finish or the equivalent, suitable for this product.
As timber is a natural product it is subject to changes due to variations of temperature and humidity. It is therefore vital that particular attention be paid to the top and bottom edges where the grain is most exposed and where moisture can easily penetrate causing swelling, splitting and warping. Open joints can occur if these areas are not properly treated.
Please note, not all doors are suitable for staining.
Question: How do I look after my door?
Answer:
How you maintain the appearance of your door may depend on the finish or style however as a general rule, warm soapy water should be sufficient to clean the door.
The decorative finish applied to external doors must be maintained in service and moisture must not be allowed to penetrate into the timber throughout its life.
Annual inspections should be made and touching up carried out as necessary in areas of wear.
Question: What is the guarantee?
Answer:
The quality of the doors we supply is very high therefore we are confident you are unlikely to experience any problems with any of our doors provided that the door has been correctly installed and that it has been finished correctly.
The individual product warranty will depend on the type of door purchased and may vary from between 1 and 10 years.
Question: Do you provide a fitting service?
Answer:
We do not provide a fitting service but would recommend that you ensure that any joinery work is carried out in accordance with the fitting instructions and any normal trade practices. You should ensure that a competent installer carries out the installation.
